largest manufacturer, distributor and exporter of dairies. Annually, 15,000 cooperative members produce 1,4 billion liters of cow milk (and 19 million liters of goat milk). The milk is delivered to 44 dairy plants producing 500 various products, 200 of which are sold to consumers in the retail trade, including 70 different kinds of cheese. Today, Jarlsberg, the most famous one, is the top imported cheese in both the U.S. and Australia. However, the largest part of TINE’s production is for the domestic market
Currently, TINE operates four dairy plants in Voll, Kleppe, Nærbo and Vikeså within a short distance. In 2007 TINE's management initiated a feasibility study and decided to build an entirely new dairy of 25,000 m2 at Jæren; a total investment of NOK 1.390 billion. This means that the four existing dairies will be replaced with a modern, fully automated plant. When the new plant is completed, according to plan in the autumn 2011, the entire internal logistics has been automated. Follow the building process »

The new new dairy, which will annually receive 200 million liters of milk, is expected to generate en efficiency increase in operations of more than 30%. At the same, time the dairy must be flexible enough to handle an increase in the product development activities. Presently, TINE launches 50 new products per year. |
For TINE to be able to achieve the targets, the entire internal chain of logistic processes – from ingredient supply and packing to transportation, maturation control, storage and the delivery of finished goods - was planned with the purpose of increasing efficiency and flexibility and thus to support TINE’s ambitious future plans.. One of the first challenges was to find an external partner with the necessary experience and skills within large, complex logistic projects.
Langebæk Logistik has been in charge of:
TINE will, to a great extent, handle the actual implementation themselves.
"The key for us, "says Torben Gjerde, dairy manager with TINE "was Langebæk’s willingness not only to give advice, but also to transfer knowledge to our organisation enabling us to handle large part of the assignment ourselves. In some areas, they have mainly served as a sparring partner, in others they have participated hands-on and been part of the team. "

”Due to the optimisation of the logistics layout we have experienced significant improvements through the supply chain. As an example, the local shops save a large amount of time ordering goods – today they spend down to half an hour per week ordering goods - previously, the same task took them a day. Furthermore, the stock of each shop has been reduced with up to 40%, which of course has also helped improve our liquidity. "
